Buried Alive

God is an American by pisaquaririse

In Better Late Than Never news–finally!  I only say Better Late Than Never because I’m one of those downer perspectivists who can’t read these sorts of stories without thinking of the many who never got to see their legal rights recognized.  Those who were first to kick and scream just to brim the decibels of human consciousness.

But don’t let me fool you!  I find this rather *awesome* and encourage everyone to check out the touching photos that accompany these stories.  The joyous weathered expressions in some of these pictures, on the faces of those with decades of courtship, are truly beautiful. How remarkable this must feel.

And yet only 48 states to go!  Of course the big question in all this: is God first a God or an American?  Will God change the Bible to conform to the American laws as they are changed?  Will marriage lose God’s endorsement?  How does God-America’s legal consultant-view these changes?   As a nonChristian-forcefed-Teh-God-American I am endlessly fascinated by what all that God has managed to get into.  And how many must spend their lives detangling this God Law to have their “God given” rights.

Only time tells I suppose.

But for now, God can come out of the closet and promise Himself to Himself in the presence of Himself if  his cloud happens to be flying over Massachusettes or California (maybe I should change this post to: God is a Californian/Massachussettan).  Which is still worth celebrating.

Oh FFS -from the article (unfortunately can’t watch the clips at the mo, as my work doesn’t allow ‘streaming media).

But I’m afraid what I’m waiting for is the abolition of heterosexual marriage. I don’t really see being allowed to participate in a patriarchal institution as that great. I was listening to a world service programme on the gay marriage business in California, and they were all on about how they were making money out of gay and lesbian couples desire to be ‘normal’. Who the fuck wants to be ‘normal’? Not moi…

Yeah I get that.
But I do see having laws that don’t discriminate on the basis of orientation as great. I do think this will help normalize same sex love as something more than an entertainment novelty or “gross.”

Oh Pffft. Always someone looking to make a buck. Just like this whole Green craze in the States. Now, apparently, every company is “sustainable” (wtf that means) and uses recycled materials. Why didn’t they use those before? Because they couldn’t turn a profit marketing that feature. Blah blah. Can you imagine gay marriage being such a trend wherein instead of “going green” we’d be “going rainbow”? The bull shit commercials and company “Vision” statements would be so obnoxious.

One of the many reasons I think capitalism should choke on it.

I don’t care about the institution of marriage either. But I do care that these people have been deprived of dozens of special rights and priviledges that the legal marriage contract confers.
Civil rights for some but not for others is an embarassment to the mythical place that calls itself the land of the free.

Oh do watch the 60 minutes, yes being gay is definitely caused by your brain special. It’s a hoot. Like the ‘gay or straight’ test where you’re shown gay people in black and white (like you still can’t see their gayer than a gay thing mode of dressing). Or the “proof” that the film of a lesbian as a toddler shows she wasn’t feminine even when she was 2.

Head-desk….

Is this the thanks/punishment I get for subjecting to you to a video with David Bowie in it?

I’m not saying it’s good, just depressing….

Everything cool comes from California: UFC, the tribal tattoo craze, fake boobs. God, I miss California.

No, seriously, I was very happy to see my home state get on the right track. They say that whatever happens in California spreads across the whole country in a short while. Let’s hope so.

I do understand that a lot of people think being let in on perpetuating one of the patriarchy’s sustaining institutions is not such a great deal for the gays, but they ought to at least be given the legal right to make the choice to skip it.

Um, gayness might be encouraged by an enzyme of some sort. It does seem to be possible to manipulate it one way or another in the future.

Which doesn’t prove gayness is either wrong or right, because you could say the exact same things about heterosexuality. Gayness just *is*, and who someone chooses to love (or why) is really no one else’s business.

Incidently, I finally found one definitive example that the reason some folks get really protective of the transgendered is because they are literally **projecting** their protective feelings about gays onto the TG.

Spent two hours with a psychologist last Sat, and it was hilarious the way she kept bringing up gays every five seconds. I’d point it out, and then she’d say “oh I know one is sexual orientation and the other’s gender”. And then I’d ask why then was she mentioning gays?

Perhaps I should mention that we started out the conversation by agreeing to use logic. By the end of it, her pupils were huge from shock. lol She called me “ignorant” and I demanded proof that the assertion was proven false before that perjoritve was valid. Thanks TheBewilderness!! lol

Go back to discussing P’s post before she gets mad at me. :0

Perhaps you could point out to her that the vast majority of transwomen I’ve met (and this could just be coincidence of course) identify as lesbians. But yes the theory – gays are just heterosexual people gone wrong because their brain is the opposite gender is very, very popular. I’ve got a thread on it in fact Mandrea, so you can always comment there – second one down on the blog of evol. (oh sorry BTW pisaquiririse, I forgot to include you in the evol off as well as LM).

Thread hijack over – resume discussing the topic…
